You Can't Open Locked Doors (Is it worth it?)
Most Liberty minded people are excited about Liberty, and love talking about how we can make society free-er. To a lot of citizens we are welcomed with open arms, and to some we are met with retaliation, and hostility. Why? How can the concept of “Liberty” be a bad thing? I have been asking myself the same question. I have been a activist for about two years and a true believer for about seven. To most I may come across as a extremist, to others I am not extreme enough.
Ok, I think most people need to understand that the outlook of Liberty is only a portion of population. There are some with the same intensity and dedication on the other side of the fence. The collectivist can be just as extreme and passionate in their way of thinking as I am. Sometimes we need to understand we can't change their opinions, just like nobody can change ours. Let me ask you Liberty minded individuals? Would you change mind about libertarianism if you lost a argument? Of course not. Neither would the collectivist.
It's on the same page with trying to convince a Christian that the way of Islam is the true way. It's a locked door. Maybe after years and years of losing arguments the so called socialist or communist, could possibly see the light. After many years on education, and factoring in the mental the personal resolve of the individual, but chances are slim that we can make a difference in their lives. It is trendy and idealistic to be Socialists. It’s just not cool to be a Capitalist.( Financial Samurai) I think we should do everything we can to make capitalism cool in the public eye. Capitalism is eloquent, beautiful, and truly the most fair system ever created. What the media has done, is focus in on Crony-Capitalism as the poster child for Capitalism. While Crony Capitalism or I like to call it “Corporatism” Is Socialism at the top, and capitalism on the bottom, isn't what a true free market capitalists believe in either. It is socialism disguised as capitalism. It is the socialism: with bailouts, special privileges, and their believe in “too big to fail mentality”. This however doesn’t fit the narrative. They just want to you to believe that all capitalists are evil.
Not all causes are lost, but is it worth the effort?
The locked door does however have a key. The key is held by the person owning the door, or the individual. The individual may have more than one lock on their door or numerous locks. We have to take a step back and look for open and closed doors, instead of putting too much energy trying to open locked doors that just won't budge. We can win the hearts and minds of the open and closed doors with greater ease. Once we win those hearts and minds, the locked doors will follow.
